One quote says it all. "Mr. Chu was not yet in the Administration at the time he made the remarks, so any link between it and administration policy is tenuous"
Anyone who thinks the president is driving oil prices has no clue how it works.

He promised higher energy prices before he was elected the first time. Those who voted for him then will vote for him again. They just look at it as a campaign promise fulfilled!

- WARNING - You better hurry out the door and fillup your tanks ... pronto! Wholesale gas increased by 30¢ within 2 days. It's now $3.30 per gallon.
As a general rule, pump prices are 50¢ or more higher than wholesale prices. This means you can expect a MINIMUM price of $3.80 at the pump starting within hours from now, if it hasn't already.
You've been warned.

Good article. Less than comfortable for the administration. Much points to the administrations policy being in lock step with Mr Chu's comments.

When they say "cheap" they are speaking relative to the national average, where $3.12 per gallon is a whole lot cheaper than $3.65. I never thought that the time would come where I would think that $3.12 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was a GOOD price!

No. It's because of the speculators and buying OUR oil and gas off the world market at their prices. We should only sell what we don't need/use.

Too bad so many can't agree that high gas prices are bad for the economy and that is bad for all of us.

Does a bear poop in the woods? Is the Pope Catholic? Does a snake have hips? Does a chicken have lips? Etc., etc., etc.,
I don't think that there is any doubt in the minds of most Americans but that BO is bent on bringing our country's economy to a grinding halt. That's why he is picking a fight with Iran, why he refuses to build the Keystone XL pipeline, etc. Whether Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s comments were a Freudian slip or intended for public consumption, the evidence of BO's policy towards higher fuel and consumer prices is so painfully obvious that these comments didn't even need to be uttered.

Obama should suffer a defeat if this is his plan to raise prices from $1.81 when he took office to November 2012.

O said cap and trade would cause electric prices to rise, why not gas prices also? Higher prices will force us to be more European, but they will not allow small diesel engines like those used in Europe due to air pollution restrictions here.

Boy, he's got my vote. Look how much good this administration has done for the good of the country. Record high food and gas prices, devalued dollar, high unemployment, gun smuggling, witch was part of the death of a boarder agent, record high dept. And he claims to have done nothing in the past three years.

No surprise. The advantage of having a video and audio recording device for most everything a politician says and does. This can easily be fixed in November. This quote accurately reflects the feelings of most mainstream non-elitist Americans: "What most Americans mean by energy policy is this: government policies that aim to make energy as abundant and cheap as possible, given some very basic environmental concerns (no oil on the beach). No other approach can get you elected."
